Leaves the plate and visits the lips
Decides to live there for the evening.
Two sudden sneezes, and
Home is lost to the tongue
The sea in a cup is emptied. Frolicking moisture pools
Back and forth, back and forth, back and
Front of a soft cheek.
Spies the sink, finds the link, holds on tight to the cavity.
Another afternoon with the molars
Another night hopping between the gaps
Another day, ignoring the bun bit bullies.
Searching for the trails that lead to the gates of the cul-de-sac
Hiding from the tongue, swinging from the window, peeping from the constant swallows
Hot tea is an enemy, a cold brew a worse foe
The lukewarm weather befriends the tonsils after brunch
But winter is a wonderland. Oh please
Sometimes visitors stop by and they’re greeted with acetaminophen’s rage
Then shoved down with just the spittle.
Gasps gasps, how short the meeting
Down here, the bigger things are crimes. The minutiae are not ignored, they live longer than a minute. Since that miniature string often catches the big citizens and they fall to the mercy of the slick bass of the oesophagus
Rare visits from the stomach after rollercoaster rides. No one wants to go there
More than no one wants to go to that office with the gowns and masks and scalers.
Hiccups are hurricanes. Shallow gulping irritates the quasi-grains. They don’t like the competition
Pedometer blanching, slight creaking, typhooned slipping,
The mouth is washed, mint and basil leaf scrubbed, humid ice fired taste
The breadth of the bristles and clean breath sing the best lullaby,
Lights go out.
A sigh of relief,
The breadcrumb survives another night.
Oh no!
The phone isn’t turned off,
Brace for more webbed sites of glucosed irritation
